Champagne is an exceptional wine made exclusively in a small region of France, identified by its special soil and subsoil.

The Champagne appelation covers 30 000 hectares and includes 320 different villages. The particularity of each village (soil, subsoil, microclimate and exposition to the sun) allowed, during the last century, the creation of a ranking of the different crus on a scale of 80 % to 100 %.

Villages ranked from 90 to 99 % are named "Premier Cru" (First Cru) and the 17 villages ranked 100 % are named "Grand Cru".

It's in the "Grand Cru " that the highest quality grapes are produced.
